Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 May 2026 · Effective for the Placeful Trips app and website.
The short version. We collect the minimum we need to plan your walk and narrate your stops — mostly your location while you use the app, and an account email if you sign in. We don't sell your data, we don't run ad trackers, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time.
This policy explains what Placeful Trips ("Placeful", "we", "us") collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Placeful Trips mobile app and this website.
Who we are
Placeful Trips is an independent app built in Amsterdam. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights below, email contact@placefultrips.com. We are the data controller for the information described here.
What we collect, and why

| Saved spots & trips | The places you import or save, and the itineraries we generate from them, so your trips are there when you come back. |
| Imported content | When you share a link or screenshot into Placeful (e.g. from Instagram, TikTok, or Google Maps), we read it only to identify the place and fill in its details. We don't post anything, and we don't access your social accounts. |
| Diagnostics | Basic crash and performance data to fix bugs. This is aggregated and not used to identify you. |
| Purchases | Subscription status (active / trial / expired) so we know which features are on for you. Payment is handled by Apple or Google — we never see your card. |
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We don't run advertising trackers or build advertising profiles.
- We don't track your location in the background when you're not using the app for a walk.
- We don't access your contacts, photos library, or social accounts beyond the single item you choose to share in.
Service providers we use
To run the app we rely on a small set of trusted processors, each handling only what their job requires:
- Supabase — secure database and authentication (stores your account, saved spots, trips).
- Mapbox — maps, routing, and navigation.
- Google (Gemini & Places) — generating itineraries and the audio-story text, and enriching place details.
- ElevenLabs — turning the story text into the spoken narration.
- Apple / Google — sign-in and in-app purchases.
- Sentry — anonymized crash diagnostics.
These providers process data under their own privacy terms and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. Live location is used to power the current walk and is not retained as a history. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records for legal or accounting reasons.
Your rights
Wherever you live — and especially under the EU/UK GDPR and the California CCPA — you can:
- Access a copy of the data we hold about you;
- Correct anything that's wrong;
- Delete your account and data;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent (e.g. turn off location in your device settings) at any time.
To make a request, email contact@placefultrips.com. We'll respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Cookies & this website
This marketing website uses no advertising or tracking cookies. We don't embed third-party ad pixels. If we ever add privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics, we'll update this section and it will never identify you personally.
Children
Placeful Trips is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we make a material change to this policy, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
